IS the problem the antenna or the dock?

Q. my sirius stiletto has recently developed a problem. I can receive a signal
when the unit is off the dock. But when I put it on the dock, it reads
acquiring signal. I jiggled and tried reconnecting wires. I cleaned all
connections. Tried moving the antenna. My question is this- Is there any way
for me to tell whether the issue is in the antena or the dock? Any diagnotic
tools you could give me would be great.

A. There really isn’t any way to determine if this problem is in the Sirius Antenna or the dock, unless you have spare parts to test them against. You have diagnosed it about as well as you can, as the problem could be either the antenna or the dock.

Starmate 3

Q. I recently bought a starmate 3 to replace my non functional
sportster 2 Do I need to change the whole wiring or just replace the docking
station. I really hope that i donâ??t have to rewire the car.

A. Unfortunately, the Starmate 3 is a completely different set up than the Sportster 2. The Starmate 3 is a 5 Volt radio, where as the Sportster 2 is a 12 Volt–so the power is not compatible. Obviously the docking station is different too. However, you can use the same Sirius Antenna.

Repair a Stiletto 100?

Q. I have two stilettos 100 radios. One works with the screen broken. The other
the screen works but it will not pick up a signal. How difficult is it to
switch screens to make the working one with the broke screen to work.

A. As far as I know doing any kind of repair usually does not end with good results. There aren’t even professional repair shops for Sirius Radio products, so I’m not sure how much luck you would have trying yourself.

The only thing I can suggest is trying to do a software update or hard reset on the Stiletto 100 that won’t pick up a signal. Either of those procedures often clear up those types of problems.
